Volunteer Opportunities

Berks Encore’s volunteers are truly unsung heroes, and we appreciate each one of them and every single hour they contribute. Berks Encore was privileged in 2015 to have 1,350 heroes help us make a difference in the lives of Berks County senior citizens. We rely on these often silent, yet strong and extremely dedicated volunteers to reach the Berks County aging population.

Our volunteers provide a variety of services including packing and delivering meals, preparing taxes, wrapping gifts during the Christmas holiday, volunteering at the centers or during special events, labeling our monthly newsletter, performing with the chorus or orchestra, and creating beautiful works of art. Without a doubt, they are an essential part in bringing aging services to Berks County’s residents.

Become a Hero to Someone in Need

Volunteering is easy. You can do it on your own or as part of a special program at your place of work. It’s also a great opportunity for students who need to fulfill community service requirements. Simply click on the volunteer title to send an email to request more information about how to volunteer.  We are currently seeking the following types of volunteers:

  • APPRISE Counselors:
Meet with persons one-on one to assist with questions on Medicare, PACE, Medical Assistance, Rent & Property Tax Rebate. Help them better understand their health insurance options and so they can make sound decisions about what is best for them.
  • APPRISE Telecenter Helpline:
Answer questions via the APPRISE Hotline, an 800 number that is available to anyone who resides in Pennsylvania and has Medicare/Medicaid questions.  The hotline operates every Wednesday.
  • Chorus:
If you enjoy singing, this group is for you!
  • Friendly Visitor:
Brighten an older person’s day by visiting with them once a week.  Click here to learn how to you can help connect a homebound, isolated senior adult with the community.
