Strausstown Senior Center

The Berks Encore Strausstown Center opened in Fall 2013 at the Strausstown Community Campus. In partnership with the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Department and the St. Joseph Regional Health Network – these three organizations have come together to offer the community a place to receive healthcare, make friends, share a daily meal, and meet neighbors.

With one goal in mind – the health and wellness of the Strausstown and  surrounding area, this unique collaboration was born. In the past, the Strausstown community has struggled with finding medical care within close proximity, home delivered meals, Medicare and Social Security counseling, and the opportunities for socialization for older, retired adults. In order to reach the rural and more isolated senior and their families, Berks Encore opened a senior center featuring a home-delivered meal and offers center based lunch in this underserved region of Berks County. Meals on Wheels Association of America in partnership with Wal-Mart provided initial funding to purchase meals on wheels equipment, computers, and furniture to bring this center into reality. Since that time, the center has grown into a vibrant social center for neighbors from the additional communities of Hamburg, Bernville, Shartlesville and other nearby towns who come to the center to enjoy exercise, special lunch programs, art, theatre, and educational activities five days a week.
