As Berks Encore prepares to commemorate its 60th Anniversary this year, the organization is embracing a refreshed identity that underscores its dedication to senior care and nutrition. Moving forward, Berks Encore will proudly feature an additional logo highlighting Meals on Wheels Berks County, a program that has been central to its mission for decades. “This change allows us to shine a light on one of our most vital programs,” says LuAnn Oatman, President/CEO of Berks Encore and Chairman of the Board for Meals on Wheels America. “Meals on Wheels is more than meal delivery—it’s a lifeline for seniors, providing connection, compassion, and support to help them maintain their independence. Including it in our branding reflects the program’s critical role in the lives of so many older adults in Berks County.”
The decision to incorporate Meals on Wheels Berks County into our branding reflects the growing importance of this nationally recognized program in addressing the challenges of an aging population. Currently, 1 in 4 Americans is over the age of 60, with 12,000 more reaching this milestone every day. As the senior population grows and their needs evolve, programs like Meals on Wheels become even more critical in ensuring older adults can age with dignity and independence.
Additionally, while Meals on Wheels is partially funded by the Older Americans Act, these resources cover less than 50% of the program’s costs. By highlighting Meals on Wheels in our branding, we aim to elevate awareness of the program’s national significance and inspire greater community support to fill funding gaps. This change positions us to better meet the demands of a rapidly growing senior population, ensuring that no senior in Berks County is left behind.
This branding update not only honors the legacy of Meals on Wheels but also looks to the future, reflecting our commitment to expanding access and services for seniors for generations to come.
Our programs and services, including social activities at our six senior centers, education, fitness programs and community support for programs like PA Medi will continue unchanged. The heart of our mission—enhancing the lives of Berks County seniors and promoting independence—remains at the core of everything we do.
