Do you need help with understanding Medicare?

PA MEDI Volunteer Helps Simplify Medicare

Berks Encore’s PA MEDI counselors play a vital role in helping seniors navigate the often-confusing world of Medicare. These trained, unbiased professionals provide free, confidential, and personalized counseling to help older adults understand their health insurance options, compare plans, and make informed decisions. From explaining the differences between Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D to reviewing prescription drug coverage and assisting with enrollment, PA MEDI counselors guide seniors through every step of the process.

For the past three years, Kristy Killian has been one of those dedicated volunteers. A licensed real estate agent with Keller Williams Platinum Realty in Wyomissing, Kristy uses the flexibility of her career—and the support of her family—to give back to her community.

Born and raised in Berks County, she lives in Fleetwood with her partner,
Mike, and son, Trey, a freshman at Penn State. Kristy’s inspiration to work with seniors stems from her deep bond with her grandmother. She knew Berks Encore was the place for her and welcomed the challenge of learning Medicare’s ever-changing rules. Whether co-hosting a free “Medicare 101” presentation or meeting one-on-one with clients, Kristy brings warmth, compassion, and a knack for making complex information clear and reassuring.

Outside of volunteering, Kristy enjoys going out to eat (mainly so she doesn’t
have to cook), taking road trips, dabbling in eBay sales, and, when the mood strikes,
enjoying a good nap.

For Kristy, the best part of volunteering is knowing she’s made a difference—
even if it’s just during a 90-minute presentation. “Many may only know me for
that short time,” she says, “but I hope I’ve helped them leave feeling informed,
confident, and less stressed.” Berks Encore would like to thank Kristy for her dedication and the positive impact she makes in the lives of older adults.

If you want to make a meaningful impact in your community, consider volunteering
with Berks Encore. Your time, compassion, and skills could change someone’s life.
