Did you know participants at John Paul II Center in Reading help Berks Encore?

Adults from the John Paul II Center (JPII) in Reading are making a powerful difference in the community through their volunteer work with Berks Encore’s Meals on Wheels and Grocery Shopping programs. Their service not only supports homebound older adults but also helps JPII participants build confidence, develop skills, and foster meaningful connections.

The mission of the John Paul II Center is rooted in the belief that every person deserves a full and meaningful life defined by personal choice, social relationships, growth, and community inclusion. Through the Adult Community Participation Support (CPS) Program, participants engage in experiences that promote independence while balancing what is important to them with what is important for them, such as safety and wellness.

Young adults from JPII visit Berks Encore’s Mifflin Center once a week to wash dishes and assist with kitchen cleanup. Their reliability and teamwork provide essential
support to staff and help keep daily meal service running smoothly. Another group
of adults helps deliver four to five Meals on Wheels routes each week, ensuring seniors receive nutritious meals, a friendly visit, and a wellness check. JPII volunteers assist several senior clients by grocery shopping on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

This partnership not only strengthens Berks Encore’s ability to serve older adults but also offers JPII participants valuable opportunities for community involvement and personal growth. Through their dedication, volunteers from the John Paul II Center
enrich the lives of others while gaining independence, confidence, and purpose. Berks Encore is grateful for the support of all the volunteers from John Paul II Center.
